Evaluation:
Each subject is divided into internal assessment (IA) and end of term examination with marks allocated as shown in the table. Internal assessment must be spread over sixteen weeks allowing reasonable interval between assessments. IA marks shall be awarded on the basis of announced and surprise tests, term papers / seminars / quizzes / case discussions and computer practicals. The breakup of assessment marks will be as follows:
Evaluation of the candidate
a) Internal Assessment (IA) Marks
The IA marks in a subject for a candidate shall be decided by the teacher who offers the subject. It may be decided based on two tests and two practical assignments. 60% of the weightage should be given to practical understanding of the subject by the candidate, if the subject has its practical component (subject with pattern X : Y with Y being non zero).
b) Examination Marks
After the end of each semester the examination will be conducted for each subject by the university. A candidate is eligible to appear for the full semester and examination in a subject I and only if he/she acquires at least 50% of IA marks of the subject. For successful completion of the final semester and examination in a subject, the candidate has to obtain at least 40% in the final examination of final semester. The question papers shall normally be set by the teacher who offers the course in the university department. In case the teacher is not eligible, the chairman of BoE shall propose an alternate examiner.
All examinations shall be valued by two examiners. At least one examiner is from the outside the University of Mysore. The examinations are conducted only during odd and even semesters regularly once in a year.
c) Evaluation of Project work
1. IA marks
IA marks for the project will be decided based on at least one seminar, two mid term project reports to be submitted, the quantity and quality of the work carried out and the draft report, before final submission.
2. Final Evaluation
Final Evaluation will be through a viva voce examination conducted by a committee with two members for each candidate.
1. Chairman, generally the guide, if he/she is in the list of eligible examiners, otherwise the chairman BoE will suggest.
2. External examiner recommended by the Chairman of BoE in CS.
A candidate is eligible to take the final viva voce examination (either subject or project work) if and only if he/she is awarded at least 50% of marks in internal assessment (IA).
A candidate is said to be successful in viva voce examination if and only if he/she is awarded 40% marks in viva voce examination.
If P is the percentage of marks including both IA and final examination marks secured by a successful candidate in a subject (or in the project work), then the grade and the grade point earned by the candidate in the subject will be as given below.
(Note: V is the credit + Value)
P (%) |

GP (Grade Point) = V x G |

V X 0 |
If G = 0, (GP=0) then the candidate is assumed to have automatically dropped the subject. He / she is not said to have failed in the subject (the same thing is true if the attendance in a subject is less than 60%).
A candidate also has an option to withdraw a subject even after final examination, if he / she feel that he / she should improve in the subject in terms of grade. This act of withdrawing should be immediately within seven days after the announcement of final result in that subject and not on later days. If such is the case then he / she can reappear for same subject in the next year along with the next batch. However, he / she carry the same IA marks for the subject.
The candidates who have not become eligible to appear for examination due to lack of IA marks (minimum 50% criteria), have to reregister for the subject as a fresh candidate along with the next batch students.
Overall grade point average (GPA) of a candidate after successfully completion of the project work is given by,
GPA = Σ GP / Total number of credits
