PGPFE - Course Structure

The PGPFE course curriculum is spread over six terms of three months each – the course is on a Trimester Basis. The core courses are covered in four terms, with the bulk of it covered in the first three terms. These core courses enhance the ability to communicate, analyze situations and take decisions using quantitative and qualitative factors, and to develop a holistic view of the different functional areas and the business environment. During this period, students take courses in general management and major functional areas, such as finance and accounting, marketing, operations management, information technology management, organization behavior, human resources and strategic management. They are also exposed to the basic disciplines of economics, behavioral sciences, information technology, quantitative methods and decision sciences.

Subject Objectives

A brief description about each module:

 

First Trimester

CC1.1 Management Process and Organisation Behavior

The units of this module defines about management as a creative problem moving process. The objective of this paper is to familiarize the student with basic management concepts and behavioral process in the organisation

CC1.2. Fundamentals of Financial Accounting

The objective of this paper is to define and explain the accounting principles and concepts, explain the rules of debits and credits and their use as applied to double entry accounting by increasing or decreasing an account balance of the five basic accounts: Assets, Liabilities, Ownership Equity, Sales Revenue and Expenses. Explain the basic balance sheet equation: Assets, Liabilities, Ownership and Equity.

CC1.3. Business Communication

The objective of this paper is to familiarize the student with the importance by Business Communication by explain what effective communication, describing how organizations share information internally and externally and helps in identifying the barriers to communication and guidelines for overcoming them.

CC1.4 Statistics for Management

The objective of this paper is to develop the analytical tools managers need to make decisions. Topics include descriptive statistics, probability, decision theory, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis.

CC1.5 Managerial Economics

This paper explores the bases of economic decisions in profit-making firms. It will sharpen the students’ analytical skills through integrating the knowledge of the economic theory with decision making techniques. The paper covers the standard topics of managerial economics that are crucial to understanding the behavior of business firms in a global setting.

CC3.6 Entrepreneurship Management

"An entrepreneur is an individual who efficiently and effectively combines the four factors of production. Those factors are land, labor, capital and enterprise". He is basically a visionary, risk taker and an innovator. The management challenges presented by entrepreneurship are different. Entrepreneurship management discusses the ethereal qualities and management skills required for managing an enterprise.

 

 

Second Trimester

CC2.1 Marketing Management

Marketing Management examines how managers make marketing decisions in complex and competitive environments. Topics include consumer behavior, promotion and advertising; channels of distribution; international and competitive strategy; new product development; marketing of services; segmentation; and pricing strategies.

CC2.2 Management Accounting

Students explore the factors managers must consider when establishing an appropriate managerial accounting system for a business. Key topics include overhead allocation in common cost systems, the Balanced Scorecard, performance evaluation, treatment of fixed cost, and activity-based costing.

CC2.3 Macro Economics

This paper places a great emphasis on the difference between the short-run and long-run performance of the economy and stresses the tradeoffs that government policymakers face. Topics of study include theories of income determination including national income concepts, Business Cycles, Unemployment, Inflation, Monetary and Fiscal policy, Public Debt, International Trade and Finance. The students will recognize and have insight into principles of GDP, Inflation, Unemployment, and Business Cycle.

CC2.4 Research Methodology

The objective of this paper is to develop the research skills of students in investigating the research problems with a view to arrive at objective findings, interpretation of data and conclusions of their investigation in the form of systematic reports. They are also expected to learn basic statistical tools of analysis to sharper their research studies.

CC2.5 Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations

The objective of this paper is to enhance the students awareness of Human resource and how it is the core competency of any organization to achieve a competitive advantage in a turbulent environment. It would aid the students in their understanding of the complexities involved in HRM and augment skills to effectively manage human resource.

CC2.6 Change Management

Change is the only thing which does not change. Anticipating, understanding and incorporating change is the biggest challenge faced by a modern manager. Change management discusses the need for change, its early warnings, catalysts, preparation, process, problems, prospects and possible predicament if not properly planned and executed.

 

 

Third Trimester

CC3.1 Production and Operations Management

To familiarize the concepts of production and operations management systems and to appraise customer expectations of quality and relationships and to update and Technologies to meet global competition and to understand functions of interrelation departments and decisions involved therein for effective operations management.

CC3.2 Corporate Finance

The objective of this paper is to provide students with a deeper understanding of how firms finance, invest and manage themselves in the real world. It provides an introduction to the theory of corporate finance, financial intermediation and financial markets. The goal is to expose students to existing work and provide basic tools to do research in the area.

CC3.3 Legal and Regulatory framework

The objective of this paper is to equip students to have the glimpses of various business legislations in the global environment and to make students understand legislations and enabling them to assert their rights emerging out business at the same time knowing the compliance of legal requirements of business transactions.

CC3.4 Management Information System

The objective of this paper is to familiarize the students with the fundamental framework for information systems application in an organization. It identifies the various information systems solution for vertical and horizontal workflow of business operations. It provides an opportunity for managers to plan, analyze and design information system solutions for various functionalists of the organization

CC3.5 Operations Research

The objective of this paper is to enable the students to overview the real challenge faced by managers is making decisions in uncertainty – their prime objective being resource optimization. The paper will also provide a conceptual understanding of the role operations research plays in the decision making process. It would also help the students to create a scientific approach to problem solving, formulation and choice of optimal solutions under competitive environments

CC3.6 Logistic Management

Logistics and its efficient management provide competitive advantage to organizations. Inbound and outbound transportation management, fleet management, warehousing, materials handling, order fulfillment, logistics network design, inventory management, supply/demand planning, and management of third party logistics services providers, customer service, sourcing and procurement, production planning and scheduling, packaging and assembly come under logistics management activities. This integrating function needs a sound understanding of modern management principles.

 

 

Fourth Trimester

CC4.1 Quantitative Methods in Finance

Capital market, Insurance & banking sector need several complex calculations. Quantitative methods in Finance, teaches you how QT can be used in Finance for a better understanding of business finance.

CC4.2 Financial Economics-Part I

Financial Economics Part 1 helps you to understand the intricacies involved in demand & supply, competition, business cycle, money, Bank Interest, fiscal policies and monetary policies of governments and its impact on people.

CC4.3 Financial Reporting and Analysis-Part I

Financial Reporting & Analysis Part 1 deals with analysis of financial statement Income tax calculation Cash flow management and Fundamental & Technical analysis which a manager cannot avoid teaching to become successful.

CC4.4 Financial Derivatives

This paper teaches you about futures and options. It teaches you what derivatives are and about stock market dynamics

CC4.5 Asset Pricing

This paper talks about Asset Pricing and decision making under uncertainty. Scientific Techniques of asset management are discussed.

CC4.6 Valuation and Risk Model

This module highlights valuation pricing, yield measurement, risk management and other aspects of valuation.

 

 

Fifth Trimester

CC5.1 Financial Economics-Part II

Financial Economics Part II helps you to understand the intricacies involved in demand & supply competition business cycle money, bank Interest fiscal policies and monetary policies of governments and its impact on people. This has got advanced concepts though this is continuation of part 1

CC5.2 Financial Reporting and Analysis-Part II

Financial Reporting & Analysis Part II deal with analysis of financial statement Income tax calculation Cash flow management and Fundamental & Technical analysis which a manager cannot avoid teaching to become successful. Advanced topics are discussed here though this is continuation of part 1

CC5.3 Equity Investment

Equity Investment gives you an idea about stock market operations and investment guidelines. Issues in Port folio management are highlighted.

CC5.4 STOCHAICT Calculation in Financial Engineering

Advanced lessons in financial engineering its principles formulae and theorems are discussed at length. This gives a strong theoretical foundation to the statement.

CC5.5 Simulation Technique for Financial Engineering

The simulation techniques used in financial engineering are presented here. This simulation exercises convert the student opting for this course into finance wizard.

CC5.6 Corporate Finance
